The great news is that Prince George is still a much more affordable place to live than anywhere in the lower mainland and there are huge opportunities here.  Our city has seen real growth over the last number of years as more people are coming here for work and to enjoy our quality of life.

People who are looking to rent a basement suite or an apartment, or perhaps buy their first home are scrambling to find something.  This, despite the significant number of new apartment buildings and homes that have been built recently.

 Sensible Solutions:

  • The City needs to stop approving subdivisions for million dollar homes on the hill. There should be more mixed housing and multifamily in new subdivisions like we see between Vancouver street and Winnipeg street that allows for small lot housing, “standard” size housing, and multi family. This sustainable approach is significantly better as it allows for a more diverse group of people to live in the neighborhood from first timers to families and seniors.

  • Right now a six story apartment building can only be built along Queensway or in our downtown. Worse, the City won’t permit new apartment buildings unless they are close to transit (this just occurred at Foothills and Chief Lake road where the City denied a developer who wanted to build new apartment buildings). The next Mayor and Council will be approving a new Official Community Plan. Through this process we need to provide more options for multi family development.
